UPDATE: That was Jack Kershaw’s column in 1993, and now in 2019, the murder of Raymond Burrell remains unsolved.

The interview of the grandson of the former Clerk of the Circuit Court which was in progress and interrupted by Sheriff Wayne Pettit was producing damning information as to who was present and what happened to Raymond Burrell when St. Mary’s Sheriff Pettit stopped the interview.

Richard Fritz became the States Attorney in 1999 and as yet, has not indicted anyone in this murder case. Fritz won another term in office in 2018 and has two investigators on his payroll and has yet to produce an arrest or indictment in this case.

The mother of Raymond Burrell, Mary Agnes Burrell died on Dec. 24, 2004, at Med Link Nursing Center in Washington, D.C. She worked as a cook at the St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Md., for most of her life.

Sheriff Wayne Lee Pettit died on Nov. 21, 2014, at his farm in Maddox, Md.

Joseph Leroy Joy had run-ins with the law in Baltimore County, Md., after being found guilty of the murder of his uncle and then when the case was overturned, stood trial again and was found not guilty.

Francis Matthew “Bubba” Scriber is sometimes back in jail.

Dorothy Bailey Kucher, a Democrat, served from 1969-1977 as Clerk of the Circuit Court for St. Mary’s County, Maryland.
